Abstract : Some physical features of unsteady separating turbulent boundary layers are presented for practical Reynolds numbers and reduced frequencies for helicopter and turbomachinery flows. Upstream of detachment in moderate amplitude flows, the flow is quasi-steady i.e., the phase-averaged flow is described by the steady free-stream flow structure. Results show that oscillation waveform and amplitude strongly influence the detached flow behavior.
