Abstract : The Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) policy regarding solid waste disposal facilities on and near airports is based on bird strike data, accident information and aircraft performance. Distance criteria used in FAA Order 5200.5, FAA Guidance Concerning Sanitary Landfills on or Near Airports, coincides with distances specified in Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 77, Objects Affecting Navigable Airspace. FAR Part 77 provides obstruction standards for use in several FAA safety programs designed to provide aircraft with proper clearance from objects.
