Abstract : In racks or containers of tactical missiles, it is sometimes impractical to observe safe separations between adjacent missiles. The current expedient of alternating the directions of adjacent missiles to place their warheads radially out of line would fail if Class 1.1 rocket motors were introduced. Installing attenuators of blast and fragments between adjacent missiles could prevent propagation in the event of an explosive mishap. Conceptual designs are presented that could be retrofitted in some existing racks or containers. Weight of packaging per missile will increase significantly. This paper suggests some ways to reduce weight. (Author)
