Abstract : This report examines shocked energetic materials with upgraded radiometers capable of 5 ns (5 x .000000005 sec) resolution. Shock-induced heating and reaction are now much better resolved, allowing much better characterization of distinct material shock responses. Initially various explosives and pressed inert powders were examined. Although this work is incomplete, enough has been done to make meaningful correlations and general conclusions about he mechanism of shock initiation. Several prototype propellants have thus far been examined. Tentative results based on the same analysis techniques used for the other materials indicate a completely different shock response. After a brief summary of the results and conclusions for explosives and pressed inerts, the latest results from the shocked prototype propellants will be presented, followed by some tentative conclusions based on a comparison with past propellant and the current explosives data.
