Abstract : This paper updates a paper presented at last JANNAF meeting held March 7-10, 1983, at Livermore, California. Since that time the UN Classification Flow Chart has been finalized and general agreement has been reached as the best method for proceeding through the flow chart. In addition, considerable progress has been made on the production of a manual of tests that describes in detail the various test procedures recommended for conforming with the steps outlined in the flow chart. Insofar as test procedures are concerned, Test Series 6, which is critical to the entire classification sceheme, has been fleshed out, and agreement has been reached, at least in principle, regarding the criteria for Test Series 6. This paper discusses the current status of the UN classification scheme with emphasis on the work that has been completed in the past year.
