Abstract : The kinetics and mechanism of the thermal decomposition of dimethylnitramine (DMNA) and dimethylnitrosamine (DMNSA) have been studied at high temperatures in a shock tube with IR laser and UV diagnostics and at lower temperatures in a static system. The understanding of the chemistry of these model compounds is an important step toward our ultimate elucidation of the complex mechanism of decomposition and burning characteristics of larger nitramines such as RDX and HMX.
