Abstract : Through the years, the amount of PTTI data collected by, disseminated through and utilized at the U.S. Naval Observatory has steadily grown. Approximately 10 years ago, the USNO began computerizing collection and reduction of these data. At that time this process was automated as much as possible, given the technical constraints involved. In the last few years, the advent of more sophisticated equipment and techniques has improved and further automated data handling. Not only has data collection been modernized, but new systems for disseminating data, bulletins, and other information have been introduced and are being developed. This paper is an overview of the development of automated PTTI data handling at the Naval Observatory, generally describes the current data handling practices, and briefly discusses near future trends in the management of data.
