Abstract : Typically, microstrip array antennas consist microstrip patch radiating elements integrated with either a stripline or microstrip corporate feeding structure. This paper describes the development of a microstrip radiating aperture utilizing multiple microstrip dipole radiators fed by a resonant feed configuration. This array combines an efficient capactively coupled radiator feeding mechanism with a planar power divider configuration to achieve an extremely thin (<.05 lambda), lightweight antenna aperture. Linear array dipole matching theory and radiator bandwidth improvement techniques are also described. A quadrant based microstrip monopulse antennas was constructed and tested. Experimental data from this array, its subassemblies and individual components are presented and compared to analytical predictions. (Author)
