Abstract : Twenty graphite/aluminum wires used in this study have been shown by x-ray to have voids due to poor impregnation of aluminum in the graphite fibers. The dynamic mechanical properties of these wires were also determined. It was found that the dynamic mechanical properties correlated with the x-ray results. The following properties were determined at room temperature; torsional properties - logarithmic decrement and shear modulus at approximately 0.5 Hz and flexural properties - logarithmic decrement and bending stiffness over a frequency range of 10 to 500 Hz.
