Abstract : When dredged material is disposed at a designated ocean site, it is planned that the bulk of it will remain within the site boundaries for substantial periodic of time. But, as it well known, waves and currents of various types of capable of transporting the material for considerable distances, possibly back into the estuary from which it was dredged, unless the site has certain oceanographic specifications. The concept of an ideal site deals with the issue of what size and placement of a site will reduce the possibility of mass transport of sediment without unreasonable increase of disposal costs.
