Abstract : Tests were conducted to study the likelihood of explosive reaction propagation along an enclosed explosive handling conveyor. An initiation scheme was selected and tests conducted which insured a high order detonation over the entire length of an explosive increment. A full scale mockup of a 125-foot enclosed section of conveyor was constructed. A 50-foot increment of explosive was detonated. A 25-foot air gap and a 50-foot acceptor increment were also present. The acceptor did not detonate, nor even react violently. A small amount of self-extinguishing burning was also observed.
