Abstract : During 1982-83, activities have been started to get a survey of the man-made RF environment in The Netherlands. These activities were carried out as commissioned by the Ministry of Housing, Physical Planning, and Environment. The limitation given was that (for the time being) only civil installations in the frequency band 0.5 MHz - 18 GHz preferably had to be included. Within the permitted time frame, it was not feasible to cover all kinds of installations or equipment in this frequency band. Some specific experimental work as well as literature sources have been used and the results extrapolated to get a general estimation of the Netherlands situation. In a nutshell, the job can be divided into four parts: collection of raw information of officially registered equipment; out of this raw material, extraction of parameters that could be used as input data for a computer model; development of a data retrieval system and a computer model able to convert the input data into RF environmental data; field measurements to validate the model and field measurements in the proximity of some unintentional radiators not suitable to be incorporated in the model.
