Abstract : This paper presents an overview of some structures development programs in which ballistic survivability was a design consideration. Some of these programs treated ballistic damage as a hole of a particular size, with no ballistic testing being performed. In the others, acutal ballistic conditions, including hydraulic ram, were used and ballistic tests were performed. Most of the programs discussed are fuselage programs, including postbuckling (tension field), but one wing program is also discussed. Some of these programs are still underway, but in the final stages of completion.
