Abstract : The shrinkage in an optical fiber cable jacket can cause stresses and deformation and lead to unwanted increases in cable attenuation. This paper introduces a high density polyethylene compound, specially designed to have reduced shrinkage in service conditions. The development work is described involving the use of short relaxation polymers. Cable fabrication and extrusion processing is also discussed. (Author)
