Abstract : A rigid case-like cable sheath opening repair is made from a soft, stretchy fiberglass knit tape saturated with a urethane syrup, stored in a sealed pouch. Open the pack, add water, wrap it on cable, and it begins to cure to a hard shell in a few minutes. This system needs no torches or electrical supply, has exceptional chemical resistance, and reduces impact, crush, torsion, flex, and pull influences. Test on 4000 rolls of material optimized coating weight, age stabilization, fungicide, UV resistance and handling properties of the final product. New methods and fixtures were used to follow tack and bond strengths, fully characterizing cure behavior.
