Abstract : A theoretical analysis of the potential risk for eye injury resulting from exposure to a severed lightguide cable is discussed. Biological data was collected that confirms the results of the theoretical study. The conclusion from these studies is that inadvertent viewing of the end of a severed optical fiber cable will not result in injury to the eye. The exposure levels are much lower than the maximum permissible exposure levels recommended by ANSI. (Author)
