Abstract : This paper considers the special structural design and certification requirements that are needed for military aircraft incorporating Active Control Technology (ACT). UK requirements are introduced which cover static strength, fatigue performance aeroelasticity, and the need to assess the influence of modifications to ACT software. The requirements draw attention to the essential role of flight load measurements undertaken during both development and operational flying in the process of structural substantiation.
