Abstract : The next generation of military helicopters have to fly under night and adverse weather conditions below top tree level. Dornier System started 15 years ago to develop avionic systems with a performance which allow the pilots to fly the new missions. In the Dornier baseline display cockpit concept the first steps of a Helicopter Management System (HMS) will be realized. This paper will discuss the main aspects of the system. Its main parts are the Dornier AFA mission planning system on the ground and the HMS onboard the helicopter. The basic functions of the system will be explained. The main point, is to use the same performance data base on the ground as in the helicopter. This data will be the performance data set for the helicopter Flight Manuals. NATO.
