Abstract : The overall optimization of a solid rocket motor consists of determining the most efficient configuration of the motor in terms of range or payload of the vehicle. After a presentation of the general requirements of a solid rocket motor, the different design parameters are detailed: operating conditions, geometric parameters and technologies used for each component. In order to achieve parametric studies, a computer program has been developed by SEP. The principle and main characteristics of this program are presented and two examples of application are given in order to illustrate the possibilities of the program.
