Abstract : This paper considers the effect of multiple scattering, scatterer geometry, statistics of the positional and orientational distribution functions on the propagation of time harmonic electromagnetic waves in a medium containing a random distribution of non-spherical scatterers. Some of the features that complicate the analysis are - (1) the size of the scatterers is comparable to the wavelength of the propagating wave; (2) the volume fraction occupied by the scatterers need no necessarily be small; (3) the impedance mismatch between the scatterers and the host medium need not necessarily be small. These in turn necessitate some of the effects we wish to focus on namely - detailed modeling of scatterer geometry and scatterer response, multiple scattering effects and the effect of correlations.
