Abstract : This paper addresses the problem of determining the steady and unsteady airloads on swept wings of low aspect ratios at high incidences. Despite great progress in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), this problem is not yet accessible to computer-supported methods, at least with respect to unsteady airloads. First, the information is discussed which is necessary for buffeting prediction. The reasons for performing pressure measurements are outlined. Then, a brief description of the test set-up and instrumentation will be given. The steady and unsteady test results are presented and their strong mutual interdependency is demonstrated. The question as to whether it is possible to separate the unsteady pressures due to flow separation from those due to oscillatory motion of the model is answered on the basis of experimental results.
