Abstract : This paper discusses the Advanced Artificial Intelligence Technology Testbed (AAITT) being sponsored by Rome Laboratory. The purpose of this testbed is to provide a powerful environment for integrating dissimilar software systems including expert systems, conventional software, databases, and simulations distributed over a network. In addition, this testbed will provide measurement and analysis tools for evaluating the results of the various user-supplied software components. Section 2 of this paper discusses the need for operational software support systems to cooperate with one another and for these systems to be thoroughly tested. Section 3 covers previous attempts at getting decision aids to work together. Section 4 discusses the AAITT in more detail, including its goals and high level design. The AAITT will be based on the ABE (A Better Environment) module-oriented system and on the Cronus distributed computing environment. This will allow the various components to communicate transparently over a heterogeneous network. Generic database and simulation capabilities will be provided to support the development, integration, and testing of new software components.
