Abstract : The preservation of the damage tolerance qualities ensures the safe operation of aircraft lifelong. For this purpose and the assessment of fatigue life consumption different methods have been developed to monitor the service experiences. Nowadays mainly two kinds of monitoring systems which are different in the philosophy exists. First, the parametric system which records and processes only aircraft mission parameters and second, the direct load/and or stress measurement system using strain gauges. The main advantages and disadvantages of both systems are discussed. A third possibility to monitor the service experiences of aircraft is to combine the advantages of both systems: this leads to the idea of OLMS.
