Abstract : Mankind is returning fossil fuel generated C02 to Earth's atmosphere at an exponential rate, causing concern about a greenhouse warming. Jones, et.al. (1986) derived the record of yearly average temperature changes plotted in Fig. 1. The least squares straight line has slope 0.38 +/- 0.04 ( deg C) (century)-1, but the average slope since 1970 has been much greater and is thought by some to indicate the onset of the greenhouse.
