Abstract : Most engineering application programs are designed to model, analyze, design, or monitor complex systems. Such systems can often be represented by schematic diagrams. Hierarchical modeling is a method by which complicated schematic diagrams can be expressed in a more easily comprehended form. This paper describes a software layer for editing hierarchical schematic diagrams that can be used as a generic interface into many application programs.
