Abstract : We present some experimental studies of the sensitivity of a GaAs/AlGaAs DH bistable diode laser amplifier (BDLA) when used as an optical repeater or as a high sensitivity clock synchronized optical receiver. Sensitivity of -34 dBm and -40.5 dBm have been measured, respectively. The optical bistability of interest is based on an intensity induced change of refractive index. A large usable optical gain is also measured in these experiments.
