Abstract : This is an interim report to discuss a number of engineering problems aroused during the development of the Joint STARS radar antenna. These problems can be grouped in three engineering areas: design, test, and maintenance. The design consideration includes two major concerns of a large airborne radar antenna thermal/vibration problems and airframe effects. The test consideration is represented by the problem of measurement accuracy of a short ground range and a plan for accurate in-flight pattern measurements. To facilitate the maintenance of the Joint STARS antenna, a number of operational problems that require some quantitative engineering guidelines are currently being studied.
