Abstract : Possible technical measures for the reduction of aircraft engine noise are evaluated with respect to the noise attenuation potential at take-off, low level flight and landing and their applicability to the combat aircraft of the German Air Force (GAF) is discussed. Based on this analysis short and mid term solutions for Tornado are proposed and investigated with respect to noise attenuation, integration, weight, flight performance, operational impact and safety. The design concept of a Low Noise Training-Tornado with reheatless RB199 engines and ejector nozzles is described.
