Abstract : In this work we investigate the degradation of the signal power ratio (SNR) at the output of the communication line caused by the random fluctuations of a gain in lumped optical amplifiers. There are a few sources of gain fluctuation: effect of pump modulation, random deviation of Erbium concentration from one amplifier to the next and others.
