Abstract : Nonlinear optical cavities have been proposed for many applications such as bistability and optical switching. They have recently found an important application as the fast modulating element in coupled-cavity mode-locking. In this paper, we address the problem of the dynamical instabilities at the output of an all-fiber ring cavity synchronously pumped by a pulse train from a sync. pumped dye laser. Our analysis is based on a numerical simulation of the Nonlinear Schroedinger (NLS) equation and is primarily intended to explain recent experimental results.
