Abstract : In recent years improvements in algorithms and computing power have allowed the regular use of three-dimensional viscous flow programs to analyse the flows in turbines. Before these programs can be used with confidence by the turbine designer, however, they must be validated by comparison with high quality experimental data taken at realistic conditions.
