Abstract : The realization of all-optical devices, whether for high speed or for micro-opto-electronic applications, requires materials which possess large nonlinear optical coefficients. The compositional versatility of glass combined with the relative ease of manufacture and fabrication, make the study of its nonlinear properties for these applications important. A brief review of three areas of research activity will be discussed.
