Abstract : The IgE receptor is a tetrameric complex of subunits, represented by the formula alpha Beta gamma (2). The binding of IgE to its membrane bound receptor is the primary step in the release of histamine and other immuno-regulators. The gamma subunits has recently been cloned, its amino acid sequence determined and a model for the receptor proposed. In order to study the structure and function of various domains of the receptor we have synthesised and studied spectroscopically the cytoplasmic domain of the gamma subunit (36 amino acids), implicated in exocytosis and IgE receptor movement.
