Abstract : Intramolecular redox separation has previously been photoinduced in ruthenium polypyridyl complexes. We recently described the first example of a redox assembly in which a single amino acid has been functionalized with amide bonds with an electron donor, a chromophore, and an electron acceptor. Such assemblies exhibit photoinduced, spatially directed redox separation through a series of intermolecular electron transfers.
