Abstract : Nearly ideal Hagen-poiseuille flow in a pipe is exposed to a localized Lorentz force density f-jxB where j if the electrical current density passing the conductive working fluid and B is the transverse magnetic flux density. Profiles of the resulting disturbed flow are measured by LDV and plotted in terms of contours of equal axial velocity. This work is related to studies of the transition to turbulence in which there is no need for a highly reproducible type of disturbance of the original laminar flow. (Author)
